It went from hours to a matter of minutes. We can use Ironclad for any department, not just legal.”

When Ummu Fallon joined Camunda Services GmbH as senior legal operations manager three years ago, the workflow automation company was struggling with the same contract management challenges plaguing many growing businesses. Agreements lived in documents and disparate platforms, version control meant changing the filename, and finding the right template required digging through actual folders.
“The amount of time that we used to spend on just the admin part was huge,” explained Fallon.
The company had just completed its implementation of Ironclad when Fallon arrived, making her one of the first hires specifically brought on for her experience with the contract lifecycle management platform. What followed was a transformation that extended far beyond the legal department, touching Procurement, Accounting, and Sales Operations.
The decision to implement Ironclad
Camunda’s senior legal director spearheaded the selection process, with the support of the previous legal operations manager. The CFO was supportive of the initiative, primarily concerned with budget considerations and the tool’s technical capabilities, particularly its integration with Salesforce and document editing features in Ironclad. The Senior Legal Director also emphasized the platform’s ability to handle document uploads and revisions using Word.
Regarding Ironclad’s reporting capabilities, Fallon highlighted, “Our CFO and Senior Legal Director placed significant value on Ironclad’s reporting and insights, which are crucial for financial oversight.”
Fallon also noted the platform’s intuitive design as a key factor in user adoption, stating, “The intuitive interface of the platform reduces the need for extensive training, making it highly accessible even for legal negotiators accustomed to traditional law firm workflows.”
Expanding beyond legal agreements
While Camunda initially implemented Ironclad for sales and commercial agreements through the integration with Salesforce, the platform’s versatility soon caught the attention of other departments. The Procurement team, working with external legal counsel through the platform, provided overwhelmingly positive feedback. “Procurement feedback on Ironclad is so positive that they want to put everything they do into Ironclad,” Fallon said.

The business needed a more efficient way to handle MNDAs and DPAs (not only for Customers but for other purposes too), which previously required back-and-forth over email. To address this, Fallon built a streamlined process using Ironclad’s Public Workflows and Clickwrap feature, enabling counterparties to complete agreements online. The new workflow includes automatic filing and seamless integration with Salesforce, significantly reducing manual effort.
“It went from hours to a matter of minutes,” Fallon said. “We can use Ironclad for any department, not just Legal.”
Integration success drives adoption
Camunda’s integration strategy has been central to Ironclad’s success across the organization. The bidirectional Salesforce integration allows sales teams to launch agreements and track progress without leaving their primary platform. “Sales can initiate agreements and track their status directly within Salesforce, without ever needing to leave the platform,” Fallon explained.
The company also built a custom integration with its own Camunda platform, using Ironclad’s API, to automate non-commercial agreements like trial products and free licenses for charitable organizations. “The process is initiated by Camunda, which automatically generates a workflow in Ironclad that moves directly into the acceptance stage—completely without human intervention,” Fallon said. “It’s remarkable how seamlessly the integration was implemented.”
This automation handles several agreements per week that previously required manual processing through documents, email exchanges, and individual review.
Measuring success through data
Camunda tracks several key performance indicators through Ironclad Insights, reporting monthly to the entire company through their Confluence dashboard. These metrics include median days to completion for master service agreements, risk profiles of agreements, and the number of monthly agreement requests by record type.
The data shows consistent improvement in efficiency. “The number of agreements completed is much higher every month,” Fallon reported. “The median time is definitely lower on our side, not necessarily on the counterparty side.”
Public Workflows have streamlined routine agreements, particularly NDAs and DPAs. “When we talk about streamlining, this is as best as it can get. It takes literally five minutes to complete end to end using Public Workflows,” Fallon said.
AI delivers specialized value
Camunda uses several of Ironclad’s more sophisticated features to address specific operational needs. Ironclad’s AI-powered clause library has transformed template management, allowing Fallon to update clauses once across all workflow templates instead of making individual changes to each agreement type.
It has saved my time by probably three quarters. Now with the clause library, I just change it one time and it changes for all of the workflows that we have.”

The AI-powered clause library is also used for vendor data processing agreements. “AI does a first pass review and it flags all the clauses that were set as required, and also flags if there’s no clause that we’ve decided is required but is not available,” Fallon explained.
Camunda plans to expand its use of AI features even further, particularly Ironclad’s specialized AI assistant, Jurist, for assisting in legal reviews.
The German language and jurisdiction capabilities are particularly appealing for Camunda’s operations. “We have German law and language which is huge for our company,” Fallon noted. Jurist’s translation features could eliminate their current subscription to a separate translation platform.
Transformation beyond efficiency
Ironclad has fundamentally changed how Camunda approaches contract management. Where agreements once disappeared into email threads and Slack messages, the entire company now has visibility into contract status and progress.
“Improved visibility has been a game changer, especially compared to the previous process where information was often buried in emails and Slack messages,” Fallon said. ” Now there’s no need to ask Legal about redlines or the status of a document—anyone can easily view that information directly in the system.”
For Fallon personally, her Ironclad expertise has become a cornerstone of her legal operations career, leading to consulting opportunities and deep platform knowledge that she’s developed over six years across two companies.
“I live in Ironclad, there isn’t a single work day where I don’t log into the platform,” she said, capturing the platform’s central role in Camunda’s daily operations.
The success has also strengthened Camunda’s relationship with Ironclad as a vendor. “I’m grateful for the relationship that I’ve created with Ironclad and how your company has valued our opinions and our feedback,” Fallon said. “That is a rare thing to have.”
